Feltonfleet Director of Cricket Wins European Trophy
Back to NewsFeltonfleet’s Director of Cricket, Andy Rishton, recently returned from a triumphant tour with the England National Counties XI, having been selected from amongst the best non-professional cricketers in the country to represent England in the inaugural Dream 11 European Cricket Championships.
The European Cricket Championships were held in October at the Cartama Oval in Malaga, Spain and saw fifteen European countries compete across a four-week tournament.
The England side drew Italy, Czech Republic, Germany and Finland in their qualifying group and finished top despite playing the new T10 format for the first time.
Even though England narrowly beat T10 specialist team, Belgium in the Semi-Final, in which Mr Rishton won Man of the Match for his bowling performance of three wickets for three runs, the format of the competition meant that England were to face them again in the final match. However, having won by just two runs in the Semi-Final, the Final provided a little less drama, chasing 150 without losing any wickets, England easily brought home the trophy.
Andy joined Feltonfleet in January 2020 and is a key member of both the Maths and Games Departments, sharing his ten years of coaching experience of U9s to county U17s with our pupils from Reception to Year 8. In September 2021 he was appointed Director of Cricket. Alongside his teaching commitments Mr Rishton still plays for Berkshire CCC and it was here where his performance in the NCCA Trophy competition led to his selection for the England side following his Most Valuable Player and Man of the Match awards.
We eagerly await next season - Feltonfleet cricket is in good hands.
