The Townsend-Warner History Prize
Back to NewsWe are so proud of our team of twelve young historians who have achieved second place in the prestigious Townsend-Warner History Competition.
This national competition was started 135 years ago and is one of the oldest institutions in the prep school world, attracting over 1,000 candidates from schools across the UK and abroad.
This year, just 250 pupils qualified to go on to complete Paper 2, which takes the form of four essays to be written in a 2-hour exam
Feltonfleet pupils were awarded second place in the competition for the Batsford Shield - the Team Prize - narrowly beaten by the team from Westminster Under, who have won the Shield six times out of the last seven years, and ahead of St. Paul's Junior who were placed in third position.
In 2021 Feltonfleet claimed the top prize, placing them on the honours board for the very first time. The examiner’s Paper 2 Report stated, “Westminster Under were very strong once again, with ten representatives in the final top thirty, but the most notable performance this year came from Feltonfleet. With a relatively small entry, candidates from Feltonfleet filled five of the first twenty-five places and their scripts were notably disciplined, well structured and fluent. So, Feltonfleet deserve the team award this year.”
In addition to achieving second place in this year's team competition, six Feltonfleet pupils achieved top 50 positions, each receiving a prize of a book token, our girls were the top two girls in the country, one pupil was highly commended and five received certificates of commendation for their performance.
An amazing achievement - well done team!
