National Teaching Awards Commendation
Back to NewsCongratulations to Deputy Head of Pre-Prep, Liz Ostle, who has been recognised as a Highly Commended Digital Innovator in the Pearson National Teaching Awards.
The commendation recognises Mrs Ostle’s role as Pre-Prep Digital Learning and Computing Leader and the high degree of pastoral care she shows for every child, as well as her support of families accessing remote teaching and learning during the past two years.
With a focus on averting excessive screen time, Liz has introduced a variety of robotic toys, metal detectors, recorders, torches and other non-digital technology to develop hands-on experience of how to instruct equipment to make it work.
Amanda Burton Smith, Head of Feltonfleet Pre-Prep, commented; “We are really proud that, on #ThankaTeacherDay, Liz’s contribution has been recognised in this way. Liz took up the role of Computing and Digital Learning Lead in the Pre-Prep prior to the pandemic alongside her existing role with us as English Lead and Deputy Head for Feltonfleet Pre-Prep. We had no idea how rapidly the digital era would need to progress, and Liz has calmly moved along with the times and kept all children, families and staff confidently connected in more ways than simply 'teaching computing'.”
In addition to skills development in her classes, Liz provides each of our learners and their families with important guidance on how to use technology safely with healthy habits for screen time, content awareness and e-safety. Our youngest pupils from 3-7 years of age learn to become discerning users of technology inspired, enabled and encouraged by Mrs Ostle and fully prepared for the embedded use of technology when they enter Year 3 in the Prep School.
